How to Choose a Kitchen Chimney: Size, Suction & Filterless Explained

Indian cooking means a lot of smoke, steam and oil. A good kitchen chimney keeps your kitchen clean and your walls grease-free. Here is how to choose one, from Chintamani Appliances, Rabkavi Banhatti.

1. Pick the right size

Match the chimney width to your stove:

• 60 cm — for a 2 to 4 burner stove. See the Havells Avior neo 60 cm Curved chimney.
• 90 cm — for a larger or 4+ burner stove. See the Havells Deneb 90 cm Curved chimney.

2. Check the suction power

Suction is measured in m³/hr. For typical Indian cooking, look for strong suction (higher is better for frying and heavy tadka). For bigger families who cook a lot, a high-suction BLDC model like the Havells Cleva 90 cm BLDC chimney is ideal — BLDC motors are powerful and energy-efficient.

3. Filterless and auto-clean are worth it

• Filterless chimneys have no mesh to clean and keep suction strong over time.
• Auto-clean uses heat to collect oil in a removable box — a quick wipe keeps it fresh.

Most of our chimneys are filterless with auto-clean, which means far less maintenance for you.

4. Curved glass vs T-shape

Both work well — it is mostly about looks and kitchen layout. Curved glass gives a modern finish; T-shape suits a wider cooktop.

5. Ducted vs ductless

A ducted chimney pushes smoke outside and works best. A ductless setup recirculates filtered air — useful when a duct isn't possible.
